Jeff Tweedy performing I Gotta Feeling by the Black Eyed Peas
This evening, as part of Dan Sinker’s “The F***ing Epic Quest of @MayorEmanuel” book release party at the Hideout, a local rockstar took the stage to perform some unlikely covers. Followers of the @MayorEmanuel feed might remember a string of tweets from the fake mayoral candidate proposing that Jeff Tweedy perform Black Eyed Peas songs at his fundraiser, because “People love that shit.” Well, fantasy became reality this evening as Tweedy launched into a short set of Black Eyed Peas tunes, playing through acoustic versions of “I Gotta Feeling” and “Rock That Body.” Tweedy also did a thoroughly hilarious reading of the lyrics to “My Humps.”

Broken Social Scene covers Modest Mouse
The Voice Project is an non-profit initiative focused on aiding women’s groups in Uganda, Sudan, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Central African Republic affected by violence from the Lord’s Resistance Army. The organization recruits different musicians and bands from around the world to play a game of musical tag - covering songs and passing it on to the next.
Back in March, Broken Social Scene set out to cover Modest Mouse’s “The World At Large” and make it different. Click on the link below to check out the video of their performance, and make sure to visit voiceproject.org to watch other covers and donate to the cause.
I’m so glad they didn’t take a literal approach on this cover. Be sure to check out some other videos on the voiceproject.org, it’s a pretty rad site.
